Ho Ying Yi works as an arts writer, administrator and producer, actively producing cross-disciplinary and music practices as a creative process to anchor lived realities.
Ho produced and curated primarily a sound-based exhibition “A Double Listen” in San Francisco 2019 with the CCCSF (Chinese Cultural Center San Francisco) under Toolbox Percussion. This earned her an upscaled exhibition paired with its eponymous performance in 2021 with support from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and exclusive art and gallery tower H Queen’s HQ17. This project is exceptionally selected by the Art Promotion Office of LCSD to be featured internationally at the Hong Kong House at Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2023. Ho, as a writer and project manager for local composer and sound artist Alain Chiu with his experimental art group Trilateral Lab, contributes writing for a multi-media exhibition work “Assemblages” and its digital rendition of “Dream Sequences” presented by the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre.
Her experience was also underpinned by her abound experience in literature review, research work and translation work since 2014. Engaged as editor and researcher with soundpocket, she wrote feature articles “LISterature - a contemplation on listening and literature” (2019) to regain relevance of literature through reconciling listening, sound, music and literature. She was appointed as editor of HKADC’s performing arts catalogue - HKADC at CINARS Biennale 2018. She was proses writer and producer for Dr. Austin Yip’s CD publication project titled “Ballet de la nuit: Eurydice”. Her arts writing experiences include her appointment as narration and literature translator Toolbox Percussion’s Toolbox Mouvement, a dance-percussion extravaganza in Oct 2017 and its reproduction at Shanghai’s 1862 Theatre.
Ho’s extensive arts event management experience is underpinned by the French and linguistics education she received in the University of Hong Kong. From 2014 to 2016, She worked at sound art group Contemporary Musiking Hong Kong and a cappella choral theatre company Yat Po Singers. She is currently company manager of Toolbox Percussion.
